These are almost all the rules that are tested involving color.
Important The only rule here you don't need to test by yourself is 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum). If your page is built with ink, the brand refresh efforts will take care of improving color contrast.
Rule number | Rule | How to test |
---|---|---|
1.3.3 | Sensory Characteristics | Visual assessment |
1.4.1 | Use of color | Visual assessment |
1.4.3 | Contrast (minimum) | Contrast meter |
1.4.11 | Non-text contrast | Visual assessment + Contrast meter |
Make a visual assessment of your page and check if any instructions on how to operate the page rely solely on sensory characteristics (shape, color, size, visual location, orientation, or sound).
Go through your page visually and check if there are any places where color is the only visual mean of conveying information, indicating an action, etc. For example: a form that uses a color icon without an accessible name to indicate a required field.

Test your page using both a visual assessment and a contrast checker such as WebAIM Contrast Checker, but any other one works to test the contrast of user interface components and graphical elements.
This rule should be tested against images, graphs, charts or any graphical elements you add to your page outside of ink.
